CELEBRATE SUCCESS!

CELEBRATE SUCCESS!

This week was a good week at the home office.

Despite the fact that my trusty side-kick was – sweating her ass off  – on a two week holiday in Italy and Switzerland, I managed to bring to closure an outstanding and somewhat challenging item for my organization. As with most of my work, it involved alignment and agreement with other teams to close it out.

After some serious number crunching, a bit of my own brand of “back of the envelope” analysis, and a few meetings with our partners the problem was solved.

One by one the “approved” emails came through with me smiling gleefully with each that I opened. It was done.  I even received much-appreciated recognition from my senior leaders. The problem was solved, all teams aligned with the solution, I got my corporate “atta girls” and time to CELEBRATE. Right?

Instead of taking a moment on a Friday afternoon to appreciate my success and just say “Thank you!”, I had to add, and we still need to do x, y, and z.  Funnily, I was called out for that!  One of our VPs asked something like why couldn’t I just basque in the recognition? I had to laugh because as soon as I hit send, that is exactly what I thought. Just that “Thank you”.  There is always something else to be done.  That is the point, the work continues and evolves and we are always faced with more opportunities to show our stuff. Whether you stick it with finesse or crawl across the finish line, take a moment to give yourself your own recognition.  As corny as I know it is, a little bit of the YAY ME is good.
